Night Rating
In this program, students learn how to overcome the difficulties of flying at night. In addition, students practice with instructors various flying techniques of take off, landing and navigation at night until they are comfortable to fly solo.
Minimum Training Hours:
At least 10 hours including 5 hours of solo and 5 hours of dual flying
Tests:
There are not any specific tests for this rating. Transport Canada will issue the certificate when the instructor approves the student’s flying skills.
Advantages of Night Rating License:
- Capable of flying at night
- Fewer restrictions and better flying opportunities
- All of the flights are legally accumulated
- More opportunities to work as a pilot
Further Information:
- PPL is the prerequisite license for the Night Rating program
- If the the student's health certificate has not expired there is no need for a new medical exam (Category one or three medical certificate is required)
- All night flight hours are informally named as Golden Flight hours which is an advantage for a pilot
- All Night Rating flight hours can be included in the overall 200 hours of flight required for CPL
