CPL

Commercial Pilot License

Possession of this license is necessary in order to enter the aviation world and start to work professionally as a pilot. PPL holders who are aspiring professional pilots will continue their training in the CPL program. The CPL program is more sophisticated when compared to the PPL as students must study both theoretical and practical subjects at a more advanced level.

Minimum Training Hours:

200 hours flight and 80 hours Ground School 

Written Tests:

  • Sample exams to prepare students for Transport Canada Written Test
  • Written and Final Transport Canada Test

Practical Tests: 

  • Pre Flight Test: There are two initial tests to prepare for final Transport Canada Flight Test. These pre-flight tests are administered by school instructors.
  • Final Flight Test: Final Transport Canada Flight Test administered by Transport Canada agent

Advantages of CPL License:

  • CPL holders are able to work as pilots in Airlines
  • Pilots holding a CPL may choose to work part-time as a pilot in order to gain more experience and more flight hours
  • CPL holders can be enrolled in instructor training courses
  • This license is the prerequisite for the ATPL or Airline Transport Pilot License

Further Information:

  • Holding PPL is mandatory for starting CPL course
  • A medical exam must be completed - Category One medical certificate
  • CPL is required to generate revenue with flights
  • Holding additional ratings like ATPL, Multi Engine, Multi IFR, Night Rating with CPL increases job opportunities
  • 100 flight hours from 200 flight hours in CPL must be as Pilot In Command or PIC. (Solo)
  • All PPL flight hours can be included in 200 required flight hours of CPL
